Saturday night, I went to a small concert at a nearby club (the one that I occasionally play at); all three-piece bands. The first band was a noisy group that flip-flops back and forth between punk and rockabilly. I think they might be worse than the first time I saw them. They've had a couple of member changes since then, so I guess that's why...hmmm... The second band included the bassist of another band that I've seen several times but don't especially like. They're much too hardcore for me. When I heard that the bassist had another band, I assumed that the genre would be slightly different but it wasn't. It was like listening to clone of the original. Finally the third band was something I could enjoy listening to. The owner of the club plays drums, the bass player is a musical genius from a local university and the singer/guitarist is a drummer from another band. But he can actually sing! Albeit his style is a little out of the ordinary. The main event of the night blew everything away. The final band, called Macaroni Complex, are professionals. Or maybe semi-pros. I'm not sure. Apparently they have friends in this area, so they always stop by on their tour. They are good; I mean really good. The other bands can't even compare. It's amazing to see the leap in talent and skill in one night. I used to go to concerts every month when I was in college, and I got to see a lot of good shows. Recently I've only been to see the local scene, and while there are some very talented people, it's different seeing professionals on the same stage. The stage itself seems to go under a transformation when they step on to it.

In other news, I have been drafted into the band at my school. Apparently the flutes are having problems; the girl who is supposed to play a solo is not getting it right. It doesn't help that there are only three flutes in the band. I have to go home and learn the music, so I can help them. I guess it's understandable that the teachers in charge of the band would need help, they both play brass instruments. I hope I can do something to help.
