Yesterday I went to the bank and tried to send a bunch of money to the US to pay off my credit card that I've been using for my trip to England, and they found a problem with my name. I've been using the same bank for almost 5 years and they now found the problem. Apparently the order of my name was wrong, and my last name should have gone first instead of my first name. Why, after five years, do they have to change it now. But the good thing was that the bank person came to school to have my fill out the papers instead of having my come to them. I guess that's pretty common since the bank hours are so short and everyone works too much. She ended up having to come twice, because she realized that she'd have to change my cash card and bank book as well as just changing my name in the computer system. She looked really nervous at first, but at the end she said that she was relieved that I could speak Japanese. I bet a lot of the counters that I approach have people who are worried about having to speak English, or just not being able to communicate, behind them. Being an American and having grown up around a lot of different cultures, we really take advantage of the fact that no matter what people look like, they speak English. Here if you look different, they automatically expect you not to speak their language. It's kind of fun to surprise the people that I end up talking to, and it's nice to see the relief in their eyes after they can relax and talk normally.

I got pictures of my wedding dress from my mom and my aunt. I'm really excited to have a dress. Of course I'm worried about the fit, but not too much. And having been able to see pictures, I know that the style is basically what I wanted. Not to mention that it was a quarter of the price I would have paid for a rental dress here. Sadly, I won't be posting any pictures of the dress on my blog or website, because I want to keep my fiance in the dark. Of course after the wedding, I'll post lots of wedding pictures on my website.

  1. It's not usual at all for the bank to come to you. It's my guess that they did it because they have a valued relationship with your school and they were responsible for not catching the mistake earlier. It could even be that they were worried that requiring you to come to them would mean you'd miss work hours and that'd upset the school.

Usually, they make you jump through the hoops and waste tons of time sitting around the bank. You're very fortunate that you got custom service.
