We had our second Maternity Class today. I don't understand how they expect 30 women in their third trimester to sit comfortably on the floor with only yoga mats for 2 hours, but I was happy to see the majority of the women were sitting indian style. It's kind of a no-no to sit cross-legged for women in Japan. I do it at home all of the time but not out in public...I get frowned at if I do. I think there was a total of 3 people out of thirty with their legs properly positioned to the side. But even so, my legs kept falling asleep and I had to keep stretching them out. The class was mainly about the signs of labor and when to call the clinic and all of the procedures for checking-in to the hospital. They also told us what the clinic would provide and gave us a list of what to bring. I've been reading a lot and asking family and friends for advice, so I feel pretty good about the whole thing. I think H got a lot out of the class though. It's kind of got him thinking more about the fact that it's only a couple of months away, give or take. We also ran in to one of his classmates from elementary school and his wife. They seemed nice.
Afterward, I went to my friend M's apartment with the notebook computer and printer that she bought from our shop. It's a 15 inch purple Dell notebook. Very cute :) I set everything up and showed her the basics. Then one of the women who taught with us at Nagamine JH who just had a baby joined us for hand-rolled sushi. She brought her three-month-old with her, and it turns out that she had her baby at the same clinic that I'm going to. So I pumped her for information and we had fun trying to get her baby to smile for us. M made a cake for my birthday with pomelo grapefruits (called buntan in Japanese) and golden kiwi. Pomelo are a specialty of Kochi Prefecture (on Shikoku Island in Southern Japan) and they're slightly sweet unlike most grapefruits. It was very yummy. M had some extra pomelo, so I got to take one home to eat. Mmm! I shared with H of course.
