Sorry I haven't written anything recently. I've spent every extra minute on the internet researching and booking things for my trip to the UK. I'm so relieved to have most of the preparations finished. I still have to get some of the transportation details to tend to in the next few weeks.
As you may know, Japan celebrates a 'Golden Week.' It consists of three national holidays and a weekend. When I used to work for AEON, we got about ten days off, but working for a public school I only get the official days making my holiday four days long. The first day there was an outdoor music event in Shimosuwa. My fiance's band played along with 5 other bands. I participated in the flea market that they had next to the event. Luckily I sold a couple things... two ceramic vases, a couple of mugs and some coasters that I made. The other people mostly sold their old junk, whereas I only had handmade things to sell. I guess they meant it to be more of a garage sale when they told me it was a flea market. Either way, it was fun, but very, very sunny. My fiance's arms looked awful after being out in the sun all day. He's peeling now, but his arms are still a dark shade of brown.
The next day, we stayed home and relaxed most of the day. We went to my fiance's parents house to change his car's tires and by chance, one of my students from AEON was there. We had tea, while my fiance changed his tires.
On Monday, my fiance, his parents and I were going to go to Ueda, but it was rainy, so we didn't. Instead we went to a shop in the forest that sells local ceramics and lacquerware. It was really nice, and I bought several things. My fiance and I went swimming that evening. We've decided that we should exercise more, and since I like swimming so much, we're going to try it for a while.
The last day of our holiday, we met up with our friends and went out to eat. The place we wanted to go to was closed, so we ended up going to the restaurant attached to the wedding complex that I'm going to get married at. It's a really nice place, but they have good lunch prices. After that we went back to their house and talked and relaxed.
It was a pretty good holiday, and it was nice that my fiance and I could have the exact same days off. Usually I have Saturday and Sunday off and he only has Monday off, so we don't match up well.
